Italy has a medium crime rate. Street crimes tend to be non-violent and directed towards obtaining property.

If unfortunately you are a victim of crime or scam:

1. Dial 112 for emergency 

2. Report the crime or scam to the police officers, preferably in police stations (posto di polizia) that are not close to the main tourist sites, as they are more likely to have the time and resources in handling the case

3. Make sure to get a copy of the police report to claim the travel insurance

In case you lost your personal identity documents:

1. Report the loss to the police station to obtain a police report

2. Contact the airline to change the itinerary if there is possibility of missing the return flight
